Thermistor symbol

A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance is dependent on temperature, more so than in standard resistors. The word is a portmanteau of thermal and resistor. Negative temperature coefficient thermistor symbol according to the IEC standard. Read more in the Resistor Guide E-Book. The symbol for a NTC thermistor according to the (old) ANSI standard.

All pages on the resistor guide about thermistor symbol are collected on this page.

Free electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic symbols library with DXF, DWG and Visio formats, ordered by categories. You should be able to recognise the circuit symbols for the thermistor and the LDR (light-dependent resistor), and know how the resistance of these components can be changed. Their resistance decreases as . This type of thermistor is generally used as a fuse.

Thermistors are used as temperature sensors, for example, in fire alarms. Typically, a thermistor achieves high precision within a limited temperature range of about 50ºC around the target temperature. This range is dependent on the base resistance. The thermistor symbols are: Figure 1: Thermistor Symbol — US and Japan.

Resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) display excellent linearity, accuracy, and stability. The RTD is a more linear device than the thermocouple . Courtesy Omega Engineering THERMISTOR Figure 1-95. The schematic symbol for a thermistor.

An application of a thermistor is to provide motor overload protection. When the winding temperature exceeds a predetermined amount, the thermistor. The resistance of a thermistor depends on the temperature.

In this case, in the middle of the curve, its resistance drops a lot as the temperature increases by a small amount. In the circuit symbol , the line through the resistor indicates that its resistance is not fixed but depends on .
